It’s my last night in Barcelona that I can go out, tomorrow night I fly back home to the Netherlands. Velty is visiting me and we made a nice plan for this evening. First we are going to have dinner in Carpe Diem, I haven’t seen this place yet and people told us it is really nice. After that we go to Razzmatazz where Alter Ego is giving a live performance tonight. I’ve been to this club before and that was great.
Tomorrow I will pack my bags and prepare for the trip home…. but first one more big party here in Barcelona!
The movie is about a French guy that moves to Barcelona to study on the Erasmus program for 1 year. He lives in a small apartment with students from all over Europe. In the movie you see problems all student apartments have, especially when you live with multiple languages together. They visit some of the touristic spots in Barcelona and even mention the street Portaferrissa once. It’s a must see when you want to study in Barcelona!

There are many bars, clubs, restaurants, touristic stuff and places to visit in Barcelona. I have been here now for almost two weeks and I see new places every day. Here’s a list of some places I visit regularly:
Start your day with a cop of coffee in a Spanish bar. Every morning I go to a small bar next to my school in “Via Laietana“. The coffee is good and cheap (only € 1) and you can also get some sandwiches, croissants or donuts.
For lunch I suggest you go to Princesa 23. The place has a great atmosphere and the food is excellent. You can also have dinner here or just enjoy a nice cocktail. It’s not the cheapest place to go for lunch but for around € 15 you get some real good food.
After lunch you can walk to “Bornet Internet Cafè” in Barra de Ferro (just in front of the Picasso Museum). It’s a small internet cafe where you can plug in your own laptop or use theirs. They play some nice music in the background and you pay 2,80 €/hour for the internet and about € 1,20 for a cafe americano. This internet cafe also is a small gallery, on the walls are paintings you can buy.
In the evening you can go for a cocktail in Q bar. It’s located in Calle Quintana and every day they have a different cocktail for only € 4. This bar has an international staff so don’t be afraid if you can’t speak spanish.
After some cocktails go to a chupito bar because thats always fun. I have been in two bars, el gato negro and a bar close to the port. You pay € 1,80 for a shot and its a lot of fun.

While sitting in the apartment yesterday we were pleasantly surprised by a big parade in our street. I made a short movie to show what La Mercè looks like. After the parade we went to see some live music and we ended up on a big outdoor MTV party.

I finished my first week of school today (Mom & Dad: I went to almost all of my classes). This weekend will be really good because there are big parties everywhere. If you walk in the city center you can see the stages where they will play live music. All this is because of la Fiesta de La Mercè:

I’m in Barcelona right now! I arrived at 14.00h and went straight to the beach with some of my new roommates. Tonight we will probably go for a drink and tomorrow school will start at 09.00h. I’m staying in Carrer de la Portaferrissa like I requested, if you are close to Barcelona in the next few weeks feel free to visit me.
I just booked another language course in Spain, this time I will go to Barcelona for 3 weeks. I have booked with the same organization I went last time (plustaalreizen/sprachcaffe) and asked if I could get a room in the Portaferrissa apartment. Three weeks ago I was in this apartment for one weekend and it was a lot of fun, it’s perfectly located close to the ramblas and there are always living a lot of people.
I didn’t pass all my tests here in the Netherlands so I have to study a bit more. It’s bad I can’t start my final internship at Mark van Werven yet, but I’m not in a hurry.
I leave on Sunday 16 September and fly back on Sunday 7 October. I hope this will be enough to pass my tests and see a bit more of Barcelona.
